Is Teleport reliable and secure? Can I trust it?

Drafts are articles you're not ready for people to see yet

Teleport is built for dependable, long-term camera monitoring, live viewing and time-lapse recording. Our service runs entirely on Microsoft Azure and uses established security providers for hosting, authentication and payments.

Reliable Microsoft Azure hosting

Teleport is 100% cloud-hosted on Microsoft Azure. Azure provides secure datacenters, infrastructure monitoring, redundancy and automatic recovery capabilities.

Teleport has historically maintained availability above 99.95%. Redundant storage and backups help protect recorded content if hardware, network equipment or an individual datacenter service becomes unavailable.

How your camera content is protected

Recorded images and videos are stored using Azure services and are encrypted at rest. Microsoft Azure Storage uses automatic service-side encryption, including 256-bit AES encryption.

The Teleport website, player and APIs use HTTPS to encrypt content while it is being delivered to your browser or application.

How images travel from your camera to Teleport depends on the connection method. HTTPS-based connections are encrypted in transit. Traditional FTP does not provide transport encryption, so a secure connection method should be used where the camera and network support it.

Secure authentication

Teleport uses Auth0 for account authentication and password management. Your password is handled by a provider specializing in identity security and is not stored on Teleport application servers.

Payment and PCI compliance

Teleport uses both Recurly and Stripe for subscription billing and payment processing. The provider used may depend on the account or payment arrangement.

Teleport does not directly store, process or transmit cardholder data on its systems or premises. Payment-card fields are supplied by the applicable payment provider, and card details are submitted directly to Recurly or Stripe.

Teleport is PCI DSS compliant as a merchant within the scope applicable to its payment integrations. Cardholder-data functions are outsourced to validated third-party payment providers. Both Recurly and Stripe maintain PCI DSS Level 1 compliance.

Recurly and Stripe receive only the information required to process billing and payments. They do not have access to your recorded images or videos.

Technology and service vendors

Teleport uses the following third-party providers for the services described in this article:

Each provider receives only the information required to perform its specific function. Auth0, Recurly and Stripe do not receive access to customer images or videos as part of their services.

Your data remains yours

You own the images, videos and other content stored in your Teleport account. We do not sell your content or share it with third parties unless you choose to publish or share it.

Access to customer content inside Teleport is strictly controlled. Only selected, trusted personnel may access it when required to operate the service or provide support.

You also control whether a feed is private or shared with others.

Privacy, GDPR and data deletion

Teleport follows data-handling practices designed to support GDPR requirements. Our service collects only the information necessary to operate customer accounts, provide support and process payments.

You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time. Deletion requests are normally completed within 72 hours and include recorded images, videos and personal account information.

For more information, read the Teleport Privacy Policy and Microsoft’s GDPR and privacy documentation.

An established company

Teleport has been operating for more than 14 years. The company behind Teleport has been in business since 2003 and is based in Vancouver, Canada.

Keeping your account secure

Security is a shared responsibility. We recommend that customers:

  • Use a unique and secure account password.

  • Keep camera firmware up to date.

  • Change default camera passwords.

  • Restrict access to camera administration pages.

  • Keep feeds private unless public access is required.

  • Use an encrypted camera connection method whenever possible.
